UvA review strike ended after agreement on new teacher policy | Amsterdam
NewsUvA lecturers who have been on a check-in strike for the past eight weeks are returning to their work. The new education policy that the university has adopted satisfies their requirements.
Great efforts were made about working conditions, especially among junior lecturers, who were often given only one-year contracts from the university. The amount of extra work was also an important reason for the group to take action. by since early April No more marking exams and other assignments, the Casual UvA action group hoped that their position would improve.
In a statement, the Casual UvA collective announced on Tuesday that an agreement has been reached with the university’s board. When everything is round, there are from next academic year no more annual contracts for junior lecturers, but an appointment of 0.8 of 1 FTE and an employment contract for a minimum of four years with time for preparation and professionalization. the university largely meets the wishes of the activists.
Workload
Board chairman Geert ten Dam acknowledged last month that the UvA has renounced in recent years. “The university has grown enormously in recent years without the funding having grown along with it. For teachers in particular, the workload and appreciation have become acceptably high. That had to change.”
Casual UvA included the teachers who went on strike ‘brave’ and commends everyone who has helped to bring about the policy change. ‘The new policy does not solve all our concerns, but it is a step towards an improved workplace.’ Also relevant advocate that new policies will be monitored the later time.
At least 130 UvA lecturers have gone on a check strike since the beginning of April. Education continued as usual during this period.
