“We are looking forward to a big tennis tournament in Sparta after two years of various restrictions. For the first time, spectators will have the opportunity to see the players on the new concrete courts from the crowded stands. After Wimbledon, their choice is ideal for starting part of the season on hard surfaces before traveling to America, “says tournament director Miroslav Malý.
The Prague Open is already preparing for its thirteenth year and has gained considerable prestige over the years. Until 2020, clay was played in Stromovka, but since last year it has been played on a hard surface. With the change, the sporting event also entered the WTA 250 category on the WTA circuit. Players can look forward to a subsidy of $ 250,000 at the tournament.
The naughty baby grew into a champion. I do things my way, says Havlíčková
The tournament fell under the lower ITF circuit in the early years, but over time it has developed into one of the most prestigious tennis events. As Miroslav Malý mentions, it is played shortly after Wimbledon, this year from 25 to 31 July. The last winner was Barbora Krejčíková from the Czech Republic.
And this year, Czech tennis will have a strong presence in Prague. The two-year Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitová became the main face of the thirteenth year. The recent junior winner Roland Garros in singles and doubles, Lucie Havlíčková, whose biggest role model is Kvitová, also received a free card.
The Czech Open was won by the home-made Kopřiva. The final was interrupted by the collapse of the pickup
“It would be great to play with her. But by the first round, someone else would be better. The chances of winning are still more important than playing with Petra, “said the 17-year-old tennis player.
For her as the home player of the Prague Sparta, this tournament could be a suitable way to show herself among women as well. Havlíčková is currently in the ninth place in the WTA rankings and, as she revealed, she will want to improve her position after being successful at the French Open. The Prague tournament can be a good springboard for you.

Of the foreign names, it is worth mentioning the Romanian Simona Halepová or the Belgian Elise Mertensová. In addition to the game, the tournament also features doubles, which was won by the Czech duo Marie Bouzková and Lucie Hradecká at the age of two.
Up to 1,900 spectators will be able to watch the matches on the central court. Tickets for the playing days are on sale from Monday, June 6, and the organizers and players are already looking forward to the fights in front of the audience.
