Prague Airport: Two and a half hours before departure at the airport. A strong season is approaching
07.06.2022 19:38 | Press Release
The number of passengers handled is increasing throughout Europe. Between February and March alone, it rose by 36 percent and is six times higher. This is shown by a survey of ACI Europe.
Prague Airport is also waiting for a strong season. There may be delays due to more time-consuming checks on other passengers, which are not enough to check the preparation, or the presence of prohibited articles needs to be addressed.
“After two, a summer awaits us without major travel restrictions, at least for most European destinations. The coming season will be demanding in terms of operational and human capacity, not only at Prague Airport, but in the entire air transport segment. We have to prepare for the burden of airport infrastructure, so we ask passengers to come to the airport earlier, for flights around Europe 2.5 hours, for long-haul flights three hours before departure, “asks Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Board of Prague Airport.
Therefore, in January, Prague Airport launched a new campaign in this context, which concerns the largest volume of security staff. Currently, the most needed professions still include aircraft loading and unloading staff and customer service staff in general. Open positions are also positions of bus drivers, firefighters and airport security.
“We have also decided on an educational campaign to help passengers after a two-year pandemic with what to check before traveling to the airport, how to get to the airport and where to park, or how to prepare for a smooth security check. The campaign will be accompanied by social media contributions as well as educational videos. Every week, there will be advice and tips on our website, as well as in individual media, “says Eva Krejčí, Director of Communications.

What to check or plan before traveling to the airport:
- the basic obligations associated with anti-pandemic measures by the countries and the airline, including the requirement to have a respirator or mask on board;
- possible obligation to have a completed arrival form;
- the maximum dimensions permitted and the mass of the baggage at the airline with which the passenger is flying;
- Sufficient time to travel to the airport and pass through the airport itself, even if it is online check-in – the airport is ideal to be 2.5 hours before departure in Europe, 3 hours or more for long-distance flights and if the passenger has oversized luggage.
How to get to the airport and where to park:
- especially in individual transport by car, passengers may be delayed due to the reconstruction of roads in the capital, crash columns in front of the airport during the presidency, etc.
- Prague Airport has various parking options, the most cost-effective parking is to book in advance and online
- it is good to plan a suitable public transport route (occupied by 100, 191, 119), by AE bus, Czech Railways offers a combined ticket to the airport
How to check in easily and quickly:
- as soon as the passengers arrive at the departure hall, find out the numbers of the counters on the information board and go with the prepared documents in hand
- after check-in, passengers proceed immediately to Terminal 1 for passport control (subsequently to the gate and to the security check) or to Terminal 2 for security check and to the gate
- keep in mind that some gates close 40 minutes before departure
Tips to prepare for security:
- all liquids, aerosols and gels in packages with a maximum volume of 100 ml belong in a transparent, resealable plastic bag. This bag can have a maximum capacity of 1 liter and only one per person is allowed. Liquids, aerosols and gels include creams, pastes or antiperspirants, as well as certain foods such as beverages, honey and jams. Larger quantities can only be transported in checked baggage. Exceptions are medicines or special nutrition and food for small children
- electronics and spare batteries are always in hand luggage only. This also applies to powerbanks and electronic cigarettes (Maximum permitted capacity of powerbanks and other lithium batteries is 100 Wh)
- there are no potentially dangerous items in your hand luggage, such as knives, scissors or combustibles
- bag with liquids, electronics or power bank it is better to have luggage on top, they will go for security check. Liquids and electronics belong to the boxes separately in front of the scanner, they must not be covered by any other objects. If you forget the transparent liquid bag, you will also receive it directly at the security check. However, this should be the last resort
- the drone may be carried in cabin baggage, unless prohibited directly by the airline (eg Emirates does not allow it). The drone is not a problem in checked baggage, but the batteries always need to be removed and transported in the cabin baggage
Options when traveling with children:
- The specific conditions of carriage for prams always depend on the specific airline and the load of a particular flight
- for families with children there is a security check of Terminal 2 Priority Line and a stroller check.
- At Prague Airport, passengers with children will find two fully equipped rooms, which are suitable in a quiet area, with the possibility of repacking and heating food, play areas or mini-corners. There are toys for children of all ages, various climbing frames and slides
- Prague Airport offers a total of 64 changing tables, which are equipped with most women’s and men’s toilets
- we also provide golf strollers for rent for a trip with a child to the departure waiting room
- for a small child it is possible to take with you on the plane as much food and drink as is needed for the trip itself or immediately after. But beware! When it comes to liquid food, it is necessary to have everything in closable containers, because during the security check, the liquid content will be checked for safety. It is also necessary to notify the security officer and submit such food for a separate inspection
Who do I contact when:
- is a delayed, canceled flight – airline, ticket seller;
- I have been waiting for luggage for a long time, I have it destroyed or lost – the baggage claim counter of the airline, resp. the handling company that represents your airline;
- something happened to me during the security check – the relevant airport;
- I lost my documents – the police;
- I forgot something on board the plane – the check-in company, these things are then on baggage claims
- I lost something in the airport area – the relevant airport Lost and found
