Blériot-Plage chalets open without authorization, anger of the owners
Asbestos assessments have been carried out in the beach chalets. An operation against which the owners are protesting. Several of them say they were not warned.
The story around the dismantling of the chalets of Blériot-Plage, in Sangatte, continues to make people talk on the coast of Pas-de-Calais. Last Friday, 80 chalets had to be opened to allow an asbestos removal company to carry out a diagnosis, with a view to their destruction.
These controls only concerned the owners of chalets who had signed the memorandum of understanding for their destruction – this memorandum authorizes all operations related to their dismantling, which aims to comply with the coastal law.
The owners had been informed by a letter from the State sent on February 15, as well as reminders, indicating that this asbestos assessment would be carried out in the coming months, but without giving a precise date.
Opened with a grinder
If for the most part, the operation took place without difficulty, the technical services of the city had to open more than ten chalets with a grinder, lack of keys. What provokes the anger of opponents to their demolition.
“I had dozens of calls, including walkers, to let me know that there were guys cutting the doors with a grinder”, indignant Loïc Lasalle, president of the structure, who denounces a “thug technique” which “deteriorates the chalets a little more”, relates The voice of the North.
For its part, the municipality defends itself, affirming that the operation was carried out completely legally and that each chalet was carefully referred after the passage of the agents, to avoid squats.
The city also clarified that the owners, whether or not they have signed the memorandum of understanding, can still enjoy their chalet for this summer. None of them will be destroyed before next September 15 and the end of the summer season.
