attendance at the Monaco Grand Prix on the rise, a positive signal for the French Grand Prix?
At the end of May, the Principality hosted its 79th Formula 1 Grand Prix. The streets of Monaco thus saw single-seaters parade by, but also many tourists.
Spectators were present during the last Monaco Grand Prix, despite the pouring rain at the start.
For almost a week (May 25-30) and despite an average 18% increase in room prices, the occupancy rate of Monegasque hotels equaled 100%, i.e. three points more than in 2019, reference year before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The improvement of the health situation held back this success. After a 2021 Grand Prix limited to 7,500 spectators, the gauges have been abandoned for 2022, leaving the possibility for the circuit to find its 37,000 annual visitors.
On the transport side, the trains transported 106,683 passengers to Monaco station over the duration of the Grand Prix instead of the 97,000 in 2019.
A handful of tickets still available for French Grand Prix practice
No less than 5,075 passengers were transported by helicopter during the 2,400 flights carried out (+21% compared to before Covid-19). The port of the Principality welcomed 142 ships against 129 three years earlier.
This enthusiasm bodes well for the French Grand Prix, scheduled for the Paul Ricard circuit (Var) from July 22 to 24, 2022.
The event, back since 2018 on the Formula 1 world championship calendar, is already full for the days of Saturday and Sunday. Alone some tickets are still available for free practice on Friday.
“There are nearly 100,000 places, we mark a record” announced in May Nice-Presse Christian Estrosi, President of the Formula 1 French Grand Prix.
In 2019, the economic income of the event amounted to 78 million euros by the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region.
