Ukrainian MP Yevhen Yakovenko was detained at the Moldovan border at the request of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), Moldova’s border police announced on Sunday. The politician was placed in a pre-trial detention center.
Viorel Tentiu, head of Moldova’s Interpol, said in a statement that Yakovenko had been put on the wanted list following allegations of bribery and corruption from Belarus.
Yakovenko was elected to the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, in the Donetsk region. Reuters reports.
