Renames this cake
In Norway, we see them mostly at Christmas. In many homes, white cake men, or gingerbread men and women, have become a staple of Christmas baking.
Now a bakery chain with branches all over Denmark has called for a change.
The bakery chain Lagkagehuset has decided to change its cake men to «cake people». It writes the Danish newspaper Berlingske.
Mother died in a horror accident in a holiday paradise
In Denmark, it is a tradition with large, decorated cake men in connection with birthday celebrations. Lagkagehuset has so far offered its customers both cake men and cake wives.
– Embraces diversity
But now the chain is introducing a change, to deal with binary gender perceptions.
Malin Gardeström, who is responsible for marketing and external communication at Lagkagehuset, says that the decision has been made with regard to inclusion:
Women rage after sperm shock
– For us, it is important that we reflect the present and embrace the diversity that is in society. We also want to provide an opportunity for those who do not normally feel reflected in the binary gender representation, she says to Berlingske.
In the future, the bakery will be able to order a cake person on the app. Here they must be able to design a model the way they prefer it.
– Large part of the social agenda
It is in this connection that the term cake person was coined.
– In order not to lock ourselves into a gender stereotypical notion when we build the functionality of the app, would like to call it a cake person. Then we open up for people to define the look themselves, and choose whether it should be pants or a dress – short or long hair. Red, brown or black hair, says Gardeström to Berlingske.
Turn on oral sex alarm – warns men
She is fully aware that the decision may create debate.
– Diversity and inclusion are a big part of society’s agenda right now. Of course, it’s going to come up with comments on this. But it is important to state that we are not dropping the tradition. We just want to create a more neutral starting point when ordering, she tells the newspaper.
