Mayor Hřib: Prague is gradually changing the concept of foreign relations

The capital is preparing for the upcoming presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the European Union, when a number of key events will be held on its territory from 1 July 2022 until the end of the year.
Not only will the new website inform about them, which will also represent Prague to local and foreigners in terms of foreign relations in the future.
New website launched (HERE), which is available in both English and Czech, will serve as a platform for presenting Prague as a major driver of international relations. The capital is launching it with regard to its active role in the forthcoming Czech presidency of the EU Council.
“Prague wants to use the period to show that it is not only a mass tourist destination, but also a metropolis that boasts high quality universities and emerging innovative projects in many sectors – from artificial intelligence, space technology to cultural and creative industries. , “Says the mayor of the capital city of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, who is also responsible for foreign relations.
The capital is currently preparing a new foreign relations strategy for the next 5 years, which emphasizes the creation of strong partnerships in the international environment, exploiting the potential of previously established partnerships, strategic communication of Prague’s strengths and a more confident approach to foreign relations. This strategy will strengthen Prague’s position as an attractive city for living and working in the minds of city residents, visitors and potential investors.
“We believe that cities have huge potential in foreign relations – they are flexible, they can perceive the needs of their citizens and other entities and respond to them quickly. Prague already has something to build on – in addition to twenty partnerships, it is also a founding member of the Free Cities Pact. It is also part of a number of other important international organizations, “adds Mayor Zdeněk Hřib.
International between cities have proven to be crucial in recent co-operation, especially during the pandemic and international conflict in Ukraine. It can continue to help significantly address issues such as climate change or the economic crisis.
