The Republic of Moldova will receive NATO weapons
The Republic of Moldova will receive NATO weapons, although it will not ask to join the Atlantic Alliance and mention the status of a neutral state.
Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova, clarified the future armament.
“The Republic of Moldova has the neutrality written in the Constitution but has an army. Neutrality does not automatically mean that no one will pay attention to the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. We know that territorial integrity is violated and neutrality is violated if we have the Russian army on the territory of the Transnistrian region. Now, we are neutral in the Constitution, but who does not defend in case something happens? ”, Said Maia Sandu in a show on ProTv.
The head of state did not specify what type of weapons the Republic of Moldova will be able to receive. “It simply came to our notice then. From the EU or from a certain country “, said Maia Sandu.
The position expressed by Maia Sandu comes after the United Kingdom claimed that the Republic of Moldova must receive weapons according to NATO standards. An announcement to this effect was made ten days ago by the British Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss. She said Britain was already consulting with NATO allies on arms deliveries to Moldova.
The army of the Republic of Moldova has only weapons of Soviet origin. Several MiG fighter jets can be noticed in this category.
NATO weapons, probably from Britain
All these talks are taking place in the context of the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for more than three months. Russia has unjustifiably attacked Ukraine, which is a neutral country, as well as the Republic of Moldova. Russia had some military victories until the West began delivering modern, superior Russian weapons to Ukraine. One of the countries that supplies weapons to Ukraine is the United Kingdom.
