the essentials in brief
- Luke Mockridge is accused of rape.
- The case was dropped due to lack of evidence.
- Now the entertainer is on tour again – tonight in Zurich.
Luke Mockridge (33) is currently touring Germany, Austria and Switzerland with his show “Welcome back to Luckyland”. For his comeback, however, he experiences one thing above all: a lot of headwind.
Background: Ines Aioli, Mockridge’s ex-girlfriend, accuses him of rape. In 2019 she created an ad against the entertainer. However, due to a lack of evidence, the proceedings were dropped in 2020. It is the presumption of innocence.
Aioli, however, went public with the allegation. Since then, several women have reported similar incidents.
Zurich Juso protests against performance
Tonight Luke Mockridge is performing at the Hallenstadion in Zurich. The Zürcher Juso launched an online petition in advance to cancel the performance. A rally was also announced.
your motivations? The presumption of innocence should also apply to the numerous women who accuse Luke Mockridge of sexual assault. “We believe those affected,” emphasizes Laura Fischer from Juso Kanton Zurich in an interview with Nau.ch.
Hallenstadion Zurich observed situation
However, no large demonstration is expected at the Hallenstadion, as Philipp Musshafen, Director of the Hallenstadion Zurich, told Nau.ch. We have consulted with the organizer and the police. The situation will now be monitored.
Musshafen does not expect any disruptions during the event either. «Of course we will tighten the controls. Entry might take a little longer. But I don’t think anything will happen there.”
