After discovery of child pornography network: Reul wants more rights for investigators
The investigative successes of the Cologne police followed the discovery of a suspected perpetrator from Wermelskirchen. The 44-year-old was targeted by the investigators because he is said to have committed serious sexual violence against at least twelve small children. When he was arrested in December last year, several dozen terabytes of child pornography material were found. In addition, he apparently meticulously uses books about like-minded people, their addresses and sexual preferences.
“Violent excesses of unimagined art”
This then leads to arrests throughout Germany. 30 alleged victims could be identified. The evaluation of the confiscated material will take months. A visibly shocked investigator told WDR that the images and videos show violent excesses of a previously unimagined kind. The alleged perpetrator from Wermelskirchen has no children of his own. He is said to have found his victim babysitting.
Interior Minister Reul said on Saturday that technical means had to be used to reduce the quantities so that police officers and investigators were not expected to do too much and could be effective.
Details are to be given at a press conference in Cologne on Monday. So far, according to WDR research, it is known that there are already over 70 suspects nationwide.
