Small trucks in Salzach: salvage failed
timeline
The small truck that has been lying in the Salzach near Puch-Urstein (Tennengau) since Tuesday could not be recovered on Thursday. The vehicle got stuck so deep in the mud that attempts to lift it failed.
The water rescue locates the vehicle at a depth of nine meters in the storage area of the Urstein power plant on the Salzach with sonar devices. However, due to the flooding of the past few days, the transporter got stuck deep in the mud and is so full of mud and gravel that the vehicle could not be brought to the surface.
The lifting power of a total of five tons of closed lifting balloons and two tons of cable winch traction would not have been enough, emphasizes the water rescue service. In the coming days, authorities, power plant operators and emergency organizations now want to decide on the further procedure for the salvage.
Rolled in the river because the handbrake wasn’t on
The small truck rolled into the Salzach and sank on Tuesday on a company site in Hallein (Tennengau). According to the police, the driver may have forgotten to put on the handbrake or engage a gear.
