Prague: You can experience a journey through the vineyards of the capital this weekend
27.05.2022 16:43 | Press Release
The charms of the vineyards in the heart of the city, guided tours, beautiful views, winemakers’ talk and gems of history. All this is offered by the project of the capital “Prague Vineyard 2022”, the 4th year of which brings further news.
Just as wine villages in Moravia and Bohemia have their open cellars, Prague has its own wine-growing tradition – wandering through Prague’s vineyards. Since its premiere year in 2017, the unique event has gained a firm foothold in the metropolis’ program, and after a two-year break caused by the pandemic, it will once again offer a total of sixteen vineyards in the last weekend of May, May 28 and 29, including the new Lysolaj vineyards.
Thanks to the capital and private individuals, the vines in Prague are now growing on about twenty hectares of land. In addition to the St. Wenceslas Vineyard in the area of Prague Castle and Vyšehrad, where there are three small vineyards, the capital also offers such pearls as Vinohrady’s Grébovka with an almost First Republic atmosphere, as well as the beautiful St. Vitus Vineyard. Klára, the magnificent Salabka overlooking the Prague Zoo and the steep slope of the newly “bitten” Zilvar’s vineyard on the territory of the former Popelářka, one of the few homesteads that has been restored to its original function.
“It is good that the cooperation has led to an increase in the quality of wine from Prague winemakers. I am glad that just as there is a tradition of open cellars in Moravia and Bohemia, so Prague is not far away and we can place a tour of Prague’s vineyards, “said the Deputy Mayor of Prague. Adam Scheinherr, who took over the personal auspices of the event.
