Welcome to Monaco, the FIA F2 weekend program
Felipe Drugovich was a hit in the Spanish game. The Brazilian arrives in Monaco leading the driver’s championship.
Indeed, the MP Motorsport driver won both races of the Barcelona weekend. With 36 points scored, he is now ahead of Théo Pourchaire by 26 points after 4 games. The two drivers seem to be the two strong men of this start to the season.
Back to the 2021 edition
Three different drivers won the three races of the 2021 weekend: Guanyu Zhou, Dan Ticktum and Théo Pourchaire. The Frenchman took pole position in the qualifying session, allowing him to start from first place in the main race. Starting from pole, he only gave up the lead during pit stops.
Théo Pourchaire wins in the rue de Monaco for his first victory in FIA F2. During the first race, Uni-Virtuosi achieved the double with the victory of Guanyu Zhou ahead of his teammate Felipe Drugovich. Dan Ticktum wins the 2nd race of the weekend on green carpet after the disqualification of Liam Lawson. The New Zealander was disqualified due to an engine mapping problem.
Circuit of Monaco
With a length of 3 km 337, the street circuit of Monaco contains 19 corners and a single DRS zone. The sprint race is made up of 30 laps or 100.11 km. The main race will be 42 laps, for a total distance of 140,154 km. The DRS zone is located between turn 19 and the first corner of the circuit. Due to the characteristics of the circuit, qualifying is done in two groups.
The forces present
The start of the championship is disputed. Of course, Felipe Drugovich arrives in full confidence when his title opponent must find his way to the top step of the podium. But Théo Pourchaire, with his experience in 2021, will not let the Brazilian take off. Similarly, Jack Doohan, author of the pole position in Spain, will not want to make up the numbers. Each of the drivers on the grid will be determined to win one or two races in Monaco.
The Hitech team, whose two drivers Liam Lawson and Jüri Vips are ranked in the top 10, will want to move up the rankings and take a place on the provisional podium. The driver duo Liam Lawson and Logan Sargeant enabled the Carlin team to take 3rd place in the standings after the Barcelona weekend. Something to whet everyone’s appetite before Monaco.
