The EC recommends Slovenia to facilitate the use of renewable energy sources
LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), 24 May (SeeNews) – The European Commission (EC) has recommended Slovenia to take measures to reduce overall dependence on fossil fuels in 2022 and 2023 by promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
Slovenia needs to simplify licensing procedures, strengthen the electricity distribution network, increase the implementation of energy efficiency measures and ensure sufficient capacity for energy infrastructure and connections, the European Commission said on Monday in a recommendation for the 2022 National Reform Program.
“In 2023, ensure that the growth of current expenditure financed by national funding is in line with the general neutral policy stance, taking into account continued temporary and targeted support for households and businesses most exposed to rising energy prices and people fleeing Ukraine. “Be prepared to adjust current spending to evolving conditions,” the EC said in a statement.
Slovenia also needs to expand public investment in green and digital transition and energy security, including the use of the Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF), RePowerEU and other EU funds.
“Implement fiscal policy aimed at achieving prudent medium-term fiscal positions for the period after 2023. Ensure long-term fiscal sustainability of the health care and long-term care system. Introduce compensatory measures to complete the transition from taxes to work, including rebalancing towards greener and growth tax-friendly, “said the EU executive.
The Commission also recommended that Slovenia continue the implementation of its recovery and resilience plan and present the cohesion policy programming documents for the period 2021-2027 in order to conclude the negotiations and then start their implementation.
