Thefts of luxury cars in E, N and Salzburg cleared up
A 42-year-old and a 36-year-old Czech are said to have started 20 burglaries and car thefts in Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Salzburg with a total damage of 230,000 euros. She was arrested and mostly confessed, reported the oö. police on Tuesday. A series of car thefts that was cleared up in April is likely to be related to these cases.
The two suspects are said to have broken into a car company in the Wels Land district on the night of April 7 and stole two cars worth 80,000 euros in addition to tools and IT parts. After the burglary, the perpetrators drove to Steyr in the luxury car, stole three bicycles worth around 14,000 euros from a bicycle shop, loaded them into the stolen cars and fled to the Czech Republic with them. One of the men reported to the police because he was driving so fast on the west autobahn towards Vienna that he couldn’t be stopped.
The next day, the two Czechs wanted to steal a parked car with a key that had been stolen during the burglary on April 7, 2022. When officers stopped them, they tried to escape. They injured a police officer and damaged a police car. They were arrested nonetheless. An accomplice is still under investigation.
In April, the Upper Austrian police had already cleared up a series of thefts of luxury cars in Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Styria, which were committed by four Poles aged 26 to 37. There may be a connection between the two groups of perpetrators or series of thefts. Thanks to good cooperation with the Czech authorities, it was possible to find, secure and return the two cars stolen in the Wels-Land district.
