‘Otello, er moro di Pisa’ at the Verdi Theater on 31 May 2022 Events in Pisa

Sugar Mizzy May 21, 2022

Tuesday 31st May the curtain of the greatest Pisan theater will rise on the amusing musical parody in the vernacular ‘Othello, er Moor of Pisa’organized by the Lions Pisa Certosa together with the CGS – Crocchio Goliardi Spensierati, a theater company specialized in this repertoire that reaped success throughout Italy
for a hundred years (it was founded in 1921) carrying the flag of the Pisan dialect high.
The first version of this parody, in loose hendecasyllables, was prepared in 1932 by the famous Pisan goliards Pescatori and Bertellotti, but the text has undergone innumerable arrangements and modifications over the years; most recently it was completely written by Lorenzo Gremigni. The interpreters are all well-known actors in the vernacular panorama, starting from the same Lorenzo Gremigni (Othello), then Leonardo Ferri (Desdemona),
Marco Gremigni (Braganzio), Mario Messerini (Jago), Fabio Vasarelli (Cassio), Fabiano Cambule (Zaira), Antonio Boldrini (Strusciamuri), Alessio Panetti (Meledoro) and Guido Bini (Ercole), alongside the very young newcomer Cecilia Gremigni (Marfisia ). Directed by Giuseppe Raimo. On stage also the Choir of the University of Pisa and the irresistible goliardic dance troupe ‘20 legs not depilated 20 ‘ composed of graceful hypervillian dancers, taught by Sabrina Di Cristofaro. The music, composed by Bruno Bardi, called ‘er Puccini della goliardia’, will be performed by the ‘Quartetto Beppe Del Genovese’ with Mauro Redini on mandolin, Ettore Dreucci on piano, Franco Bonsignori and Alessandro Sodini on accordion. Bruno Bardi himself, 99 years old dean of the Italian student spirit, will be present at the event and will sing the anthem of the Crocchio ‘Bimbe di Pisa’.

The proceeds of the evening will be donated to Stella Maris Foundation as in past years, in which the performances of the Crocchio have registered a full success (Francesca da Rimini in 2018 and La Traviata in 2019).

There presale of tickets it is at the ticket office of the Verdi Theater (Via Palestro, Pisa, tel. 050 941111) or on www.vivaticket.it. The poster warns: ‘Laughs like dying: bring us the sòcera!’.
