“La casa sul mare”, between ecology and sustainability: the animated short film already in Venice and Locarno
An animation short film entirely made in Campania on sustainability. “La casa sul mare” is a film inspired by mythology and fairy tales, already made official in competition at the Venice and Locarno Film Festivals. The protagonist is Pip, a small man who lives in a giant and hyper-technological city. A sudden earthquake causes his house to fall into the ocean and, floating, begins to move away from the city. This will be Pip to face an adventure in the cruel but magnificent ocean. During this journey, Pip will regress to a primordial life that will allow him to survive and reach a spirituality now lost due to the urban lifestyle. In the film there are no dialogues and everything is narrated through animation and music, and the themes addressed, in addition to the physical and spiritual journey, are those of ecology and the return to nature, showing the need of the human being to have to go further. his own limits in order to improve himself.
«The house on the sea starts from the idea of creating a modern myth, with a nature-loving hero in a hyper-technological world. Pip’s closeness to nature is his great strength that has allowed him to carry out his adventure. I think it is extremely important for us to make the same transition that the protagonist does, to understand nature and respect it in order to live with it », commented director Fulvio Davide Ricca.
The story is based on the studies of Joseph Cambell (The Hero with a Thousand Faces) and Vladir Propp (Morphology of the Tale). The goal is to create a contemporary story about discovery and personal growth. Pip is a clumsy but agile man (on the false copy of Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd), an eternal child who is forced to grow up in a world that doesn’t understand him. The Turtle Studio team used classic 2D animation, with 3D grafts, which lends itself perfectly to the theme of the story. The duration of the film is 15 minutes and is produced by Antracine SRL, and co-produced by TVCO SRL and Rain Dogs.
