Shooting of ‘Furious Speed’ has “huge impact” in Portugal
sofia Noronha, from the production company Sagesse Productions, confirms that the filming of the latest “Furious Speed” films is scheduled in the regions, center and in Lisbon, “for a good few weeks”, many municipalities and the series of presence in Portugal will have 600 to 700 people, including Portuguese and foreign professionals.
On Thursday, it was reported that the Viseu region, namely the former IP5, will be the scene of some filming of this feature film, while from the Vila Real chamber, Jornal President Rui Santos, publicly stated that the city will host a Hollywood production linked to “high speed”, between June and July.
“This type of production covers several sectors, carpentry, construction, machinery, wardrobe, small businesses, it is a very complete area”, said Sofia Noronha, adding that the shooting also with Portuguese actors, not yet announced.
“Fast X”, the first film in the profitable “Fast and Furious” series, is directed by Frenchman Louis Letrier, who directed, among others, “Masters of Illusion” and “The Incredible Hulk”. Initially the director of “Fast X” was Justin Lin, who ended up giving up directing the film, but remained attached to the project.
With a screenplay by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau, the film has, among others, Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Michelle Rodriguez and the Portuguese Daniela Melchior, and the shooting takes place in the United Kingdom, Italy and Portugal. .
According to the American publication The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s budget has already exceeded 300 million dollars (about 284 million euros), a figure that does not include costs in ‘marketing’ and advertising.
For reasons of contractual confidentiality, there are many details that cannot be revealed, namely budgetary ones, but the producer says that “it is a brutal economic investment in the country”.
“It’s opening the doors and using the maximum of Portuguese services. […] Portugal has all the conditions as conditions for the site of the film and not only for the time, for the price, for the price, for the affordable price, for the conditions that cannot be of work, the Portuguese learn that very quickly and accessible. But we still didn’t have this open market,” he said.
Sagesse Productions was created in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic, “at such an uncertain time”, said Sofia Noronha, but with work followed since then.
In addition to “Fast X”, the production company was associated, for example, with the filming of “House of the Dragon”, the prequel to the television series “Game of Thrones”, shot in 2021 in Monsanto, which premieres on 22 next August on the streaming platform HBO MAX.
“They already appeared in Spain, a curiosity arose in them in Portugal, in which they visited curiosity in Portugal, in which they explored in places – and found several -, but the one that really stayed, that they fell in love with, was Monsanto film”, recalled Sofia Noronha, who takes the production back to Portugal for a new season for granted.
Another of the productions in which he is connected is the film “Nobody Heart”, by director Isabel Coixet whose production-production is in Portugal in August.
For Sofia Noronha, the creation of tax incentives by the Government in 2018 is one of the reasons for the presence of more foreign productions such as “Fast X” in Portugal.
“The film industry is used to these incentives and all our competitors and those close to us have tax incentives, because normally the investment made in the country is almost double that tax incentive, the country always ends up as a beneficiary”, he said.
According to the most recent report on film and audiovisual production incentives and international capture and filming, referring to 2018-2020 and made available online, the production of 48 works was supported, with a total incentive of 15.3 million euros, and investment in Portugal was 58.7 million euros.
The movie “Fast X” is scheduled for release on May 19, 2023, in theaters in the United States of America.
