Piano City: music floods Milan for three days
300 artists and 200 concerts (free), every hour for three days: the “Piano City” festival is the must-see of the weekend from 20 to 22 May. Selection of events to listen to, in parks, gardens, palaces and museums.
From dawn to dusk, in the squares, in the gardens and in the museums, the notes of jazz, classical, pop and electronic music resonate from the center of Milan to the surroundings. For three days (from May 19 to 22), 300 artists take over some 100 improvised places in open-air concert halls.
Piano City 2022: the unmissable concerts
L’inauguration Friday May 20 at 9 p.m., place in the gardens of the Real Villa, the beating heart of the event since its inception, with jazz legend Abdullah Ibrahim. A South African pianist and composer whom Nelson Mandela called “our Mozart”.
Of them concerts at dawn (at 5 a.m.) are to be listened to, Saturday at the amphitheater Mount Stella (via Terzaghi), to wake up with pianist Francesco Grillo and a repertoire ranging from Schubert to Chopin (Saturday); Sunday at the Hill of Ciliegi di Bicocca with the original repertoire of Alessandro Martire.
On Friday evening, the MAG (Gallery of Modern Art) will welcome (at 9 p.m.) the Sicilian composer Gilda Buttà, collaborator of the great Ennio Morricone, to whom she has dedicated a new disc, which will be presented at Piano City.
And to watch the sunset over the rooftops of Milan, accompanied by the notes of Davide Santacolomba who plays a Chopin, Debussy and Schubert, meet on Sunday (at 8 p.m.) in the exceptional setting of the Belvedere at 39th floor of Palazzo Lombardia.
Another place not to be missed is the Rotunda of the Besanawhere nine pianists say they will play from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, nine Beethoven symphonies (one every hour).
The final event will be held on Sunday, again at GAM (at 10 p.m.), with the young and talented Frida Bollani Magoni, who will be accompanied by a special guest, the selected singer Oren Lavie.
Piano City Milano is also at the San Siro Hippodrome, Casa Atellani (in the vineyards of Leonardo da Vinci), the Bocconi Campus Park, Eataly Smeraldo, the Scala Theater and the of the Triennale, or at the ADI Design Museum.
