Magdeburg’s 22:7 after the break – Torfestival in Berlin
In the Handball Bundesliga, five games were scheduled on Thursday evening parallel to the Champions League quarter-finals. In Magdeburg, the first showed the last the limits, in Berlin there were enough goals.
SC Magdeburg is making giant strides towards the first German championship title since 2001. The sovereign Bundesliga table leader also won his catch-up game against bottom TuS N-Lübbecke with 38:20 (16:13). The SCM presented themselves confidently in front of their home crowd from the start and extended their lead more and more clearly in the second half – it was 22:7 in the second 30 minutes.
The acute relegation-threatened TuS had no chance. Backcourt player Omar Ingi Magnusson was the best Magdeburg thrower with eight goals again. Marek Nissen scored five goals for the guests. With four games left, coach Bennet Wiegert’s team (56:4) has a clear lead over pursuers THW Kiel (48:10), who have played one game less.
Meanwhile, Füchse Berlin are at least temporarily displacing SG Flensburg-Handewitt from third place. The foxes beat Frisch on Göppingen in a veritable peat festival with 37:31 (22:18) and now have 48:12 points further in the race for the Champions League places. Right winger Hans Lindberg scored ten goals in five converted seven meters.
We don’t have to say anything more about Hans Lindberg, ten out of eleven again today.
“I think we saw a really great handball game today,” stated Berlin board member Stefan Kretzschmar: “Of course we, as those responsible, have something to criticize at one point or another, that’s normal. Göppingen played very aggressively today and often attacked us in retreat. We probably had our problems there. As a team we held up, Fabian Wiede showed an outstanding game today, Mijajlo Marsenic fought and we don’t have to say anything more about Hans Lindberg, today again ten out of eleven.”
Minden makes important meters in the table cellar
In the table basement, TSV GWD Minden achieved an important partial success against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf. Thanks to Justus Richtzenhain’s goal to make it 26:26 (12:12) 14 seconds before the end, Minden (16:46) made up at least one point against HBW Balingen-Weilstetten. HBW lost against HSG Wetzlar 24:28 (9:13) and remains penultimate.
At the same time, MT Melsungen conceded the next home defeat, at 18:23 (8:10) against TBV Lemgo Lippe no MT professional scored more than three goals. Left winger Bjarki Mar Elisson scored six goals for the guests from East Westphalia.
