Toulouse: the teacher plays the Beatles during Ramadan, college students leave the course
The rectorate of Toulouse has confirmed the information that middle school students from an establishment in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) left a classroom on April 4, on the grounds that their teacher broadcast a Beatles song during Ramadan.
The facts may appear astounding, but they did happen. On April 4, a student from the Collège des Chalets, in Toulouse, got up and left a class, imitated by other comrades. The reason ? Their music teacher came to throw a song, by the Beatles, when the period of Ramadan had appeared by the Muslims.
The teenager told his teacher that during this period, his religion forbids him to listen to music, reports The Dispatch.
Immediately, the educational team of the establishment went to the class to remind the values of the Republic, in particular those concerning secularism.
The rectorate has confirm the facts, making a point of indicating that the pupils who left the course were not all of the Muslim faith and that for them it was a question of a group effect, more than of religious conviction. He supported these types of acts.
