Toulouse encountered en route the longest urban cable car in France
Covering 3 kilometers, Toulouse (Occitanie) puts into service the longest urban cable car ever integrated in France, called Téléo. This new public transport offer makes it easier to travel between the east and west of the metropolis.
100% electric and 3 times faster to reach their destination, Toulouse took Téléo on May 13. This urban cable car, whose installation was operational in 2019, travels nearly 3 kilometers and connects the Oncopole to Paul Sabatier University via Rangueil Hospital in about ten minutes compared to 30 minutes by car. With this mode of transport suspended in the air, the Toulouse metropolis intends “to restore oxygen to the southern belt of Toulouse where major centers of attraction are concentrated”.
With a service provided from 5:15 a.m. to midnight, Téléo serves three main stops where several major centers of attraction are concentrated (Paul Sabatier, CHU Rangueil and Oncopole) and has 15 cabins for 34 people traveling at a frequency of 1 min 30 in peak hours. Eventually, the metropolis expects to transport 8,000 passengers per day.
An overhead line integrated into the existing network
To ensure its accessibility, the cable car was integrated into the Tisséo network without modifying the Tisséo tariff in force when it was put into service, specifies the metropolis. It also benefits from a direct connection with the metro (line B) and bus lines.
The urban cable car has been deployed near existing park and ride facilities (Ramonville metro station). In addition, the Oncopole station will benefit from a 500-space parking area to encourage motorists to use it. In addition, cyclists can board, however only one bicycle is allowed per cabin.
