Casper Ruud (ATP 8) only needed 55 minutes to launch his “mission to defend the title” in Geneva. The Norwegian, who had previously enjoyed a bye at the ATP 250 tournament, won the round of 16 against Benoît Paire (ATP 67) 6: 3, 6: 1 without discussion. On the one hand, this was due to Ruud’s sovereign appearance, but on the other hand, it was also due to the fact that the quarrelsome pair lost interest in the game in the same way as the opening sentence.
The Frenchman got off to a good start and made the first break of the match at 1-1. As a result, however, Ruud expected to and finally lived up to his role as favorite.
