Toulouse: in the middle of Ramadan, the broadcast of a Beatles song in class does not pass
Students at a college in Toulouse left a class when their music teacher made them listen to a Beatles song during Ramadan. The rectorate was seized for what may be related to an act of radicalization in the school environment.
The scene takes place on April 4 at Les Chalets college in Toulouse. In this wealthy residential sector of the city center, the establishment is not accustomed to controversies or other problems of discipline and yet. When a music teacher broadcasts in class a Beatles song to study its structure, a pupil, claiming that in times of Ramadan he can’t listen to music, get up and leave class, report today the Midi Dispatch.
Other comrades follow him
Seven other comrades then follow him. They are “not all of the Muslim faith, they did it by group effect and not by religious conviction” specifies Mostafa Fourar, the rector of the Toulouse academy, who was seized by the head of the establishment concerned. . After a reframing of the teaching staff to the students to remind them of the values of the Republic, the situation has not been emulated. Another religious event also took place in the same establishment a few days before.
“We must not see ideological or religious claims behind that. It’s just a way for them to test the authority of the management,” tempers a professor. The rectorate indicates to closely monitor these acts likely “to chip away at the republican principle”, even if since the attacks in Toulouse and Montauban in 2012, the situation “is stabilizing”, estimates the rector.
