There is a fierce battle for Volkswagen’s huge battery factory – Hungary is also competing
Volkswagen announced last October that a decision had already been made in the first half of 2022 on where to build the planned battery plant in Eastern Europe, which would be the fourth in a row. The German carmaker plans to set up a total of six such manufacturers across Europe by the end of the decade.
The decision will be made in Wolfsburg
– Michael Oeljeklaus, Member of the Board of Directors for Production and Logistics at Skoda. He added that they hope and trust that this decision will be made in the late fall, but no later than next year.
Of course, he also indicated that I hope the management of the Volkswagen Group will eventually decide in favor of the Czech Republic.
The final location is extremely important for Hungary, as according to Volkswagen’s report, in addition to the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia, Hungary is also competing for the investment.
The Volkswagen Group is a salzgitter battery factory, its annual production capacity could reach 40 gigawatt hours, and it is planned to start operating as early as 2025. This investment could amount to EUR 2 billion (approximately HUF 772 billion) and create 2,500 new jobs in Germany.
