Fabien Vincent (Rouen): “We deserve to get out of it”
Fabien Vincent – Third line of Rouen
Heavily impacted by extra-sporting events in the second half of the season, Rouen was off to a good start at the end of last year, and had to fight all season to keep its place in the professional world.
Rouen has suffered all this season, the deliverance must be even tastier…
Yes, we are physically and mentally tired. But the outcome is beautiful, against Bayonne we tried half-time, but we were overwhelmed everywhere. It is a team which, when it evolves at its level and at home, is difficult to take. All our mistakes were paid for, and on one struggled to exist. I admit we spent more time in the second half watching the buddies on the bench to see if their faces were beaming or scowling at the phone screens.
We imagine that vis-à-vis the tragic disappearance of Jordan (Michallet died at the beginning of the year), you are happy to offer him this outcome?
We would have liked so much that he lived that with us, he was an exemplary competitor who liked to fight, he would have radiated. We’ve been giving it our all since February to keep ourselves out of the water. We talked about it between us after the match against Grenoble, we waited to get back on track to be able to put words into words. I think we had a lot of merit to get out of it.
What is the program from this week?
I think we’re having an end-of-season meeting, to take stock, and a barbecue all together today (Monday, editor’s note). Then we will go on vacation for a recovery on July 1st to prepare for our fourth season in Pro D2.
Rouen needs to grow further. As a former member of the club, what would you like to see assessed?
You have to structure yourself, again and again, and understand the requirements of this level. We know that the positions must be doubled, by players of the same level, to avoid loss, and a third player in key positions. So we have to move towards that. I am lucky thanks to my employer (Enedis, Editor’s note) to have another year of availability, or even two. It’s an opportunity and I want to enjoy the last few months. We have the right to aim for a ninth or a tenth place, but we have to give ourselves the means. Rouen is not worse than the others, we just need constant support.
