Prague 5 is looking for solar energy, it wants to use the roofs of primary schools
15.05.2022 11:47 | Press Release
The Prague 5 district will try to use the photovoltaic power plant as an alternative energy source. “We are looking for suitable school roofs,” says Finance Councilor Jan Kavalírek.
The intention to install photovoltaic power plants in cooperation with the Prague Renewable Energy Community has already been approved by the city council. In the first phase, the roof options of the five primary schools that Prague 5 is setting up will be examined.
“We have selected the first buildings and it is necessary to check their statics, whether the roof will support the panels and there is also the possibility of possible connection of power plants to the Prague energy network. If we find a suitable place, we will try to build a pilot project within the RES + Modernization Fund subsidy program, “adds councilor Jan Kavalírek (TOP09).
Technicians inspect the roofs of Barrandov’s primary schools in Remízek and Chaplinovo náměstí, ZŠ Weberova, Pod Žvahovem and Nepomucká. A possible application for a subsidy will then be prepared by Prague 5 with the City of Prague Renewable Energy Community’s contributory organization, which the capital has established for these projects.

“It’s definitely an interesting alternative to get clean and of course relatively cheap energy. Furthermore, with the introduction of energy management, we would reduce costs and energy consumption within the contributory organizations of Prague 5, “adds Jan Kavalírek.
The aim of implementing energy management is primarily to reduce energy consumption, save costs for the city district and improve the environment. This will be achieved through the introduction of accurate energy consumption and electronic data analysis, on the basis of which targeted investment actions are implemented to effectively reduce energy consumption.
