3 wonderful rooftop bars where we would spend all summer evenings
Budapest is teeming with wonderful rooftop bars, we are now showing three things that are really worth checking out this summer!
Sky Garden is a rooftop terrace
It opened its doors in May 2019, at or above Podmaniczky Street 45, not far from the Western Railway Station. The terrace is at the top of the Mystery Hotel, so to get there you have to go into the hotel first, which is already an experience, and then take the lift up to the roof. The view is open, you can enjoy our favorite food and drinks while sitting at a table or even relaxing on comfortable sun loungers while stalking the Buda Castle and the wonderful Matthias Church. The Sky Garden even has a jacuzzi, so you don’t have to overdo our outfits during the day, but after sunset it’s worth arriving a little prettier because basically the place has an elegant, chic feel, not a typical hipster spot.
High Note SkyBar
At the top of the Aria Hotel is the High Note SkyBar, listed among the world’s best rooftop bars in 2018 by the famous travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler. Due to its design, it can be visited in winter and summer, and you don’t have to worry about perfect Insta-compatible images, as the imposing St. Stephen’s Basilica is just a spit away, providing a wonderful backdrop for photographers.
The High Note SkyBar’s spring cocktail menu, compiled by bartender Marcell Sárközi and his team in the 2022 season, was inspired by the most important flowers in human history, such as the rose from Adonis ’blood or the orchid as a symbol of beauty and youth. Unusual world, surprising texture, colorful world evoking flowers – these characterize the new cocktails, which were also made with homemade ingredients. Beverage poems bearing the Latin names of flowers lead to the world of Greek and Roman mythology. A playful, delicately spicy cocktail is Hyacinthus, which evokes the figure of Hyakinthos, the god of spring and rebirth. Hyakinthos’ love, Apollo, was accidentally wounded to death by a lost disco, and the first hyacinths were stimulated by the blood of the young man falling to the ground.
Their story also inspired one of the world’s greatest composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who composed his first stage work, Apollo and Hyacinth, at the age of eleven. When creating the Hyacinthus cocktail, the Marcelles of Sárközi combined gluten-free whiskey and herbal liqueur with classic spring flavors: in addition to chives vermouth, mustard also appears in this truly surprising cocktail.
