Hanover (dpa) – The Hanover Theater brings the only novel by the American playwright Arthur Miller to the stage. The play, based on the 1945 novel “Fokus”, celebrates its world premiere this Friday (7:30 p.m.). It tells the story of an employee in New York in the 1940s who gets glasses and is suddenly read as Jewish by those around him and is increasingly discriminated against.
Unfortunately, the material has gained relevance, said director Laura Linnenbaum with a view to the spread of anti-Jewish conspiracy myths in connection with the corona pandemic. In “Fokus” Miller reveals the mechanisms and arbitrariness of anti-Semitism, the director said in an interview in the program for the production in Hanover.
“Death of a Salesman” and “Witch Hunt” are among the famous plays by the American playwright Arthur Miller, who died in 2005 at the age of 89. They are still often read in schools and have also been filmed. The son of Polish-Jewish immigrants was married to actress Marilyn Monroe from 1956 to 1961.
