Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – A man in Frankfurt has been sentenced to 18 months in prison on probation for deprivation of liberty and coercion when escaping from a psychiatric hospital. The judges at the district court assumed on Friday that the 23-year-old had threatened several nurses and a doctor with a fork in October 2021 and locked them in a room. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
The charge of rapacious extortion, which was also originally charged, was dropped. The defendant had taken possession of a mobile phone and the keys. The flight itself was not punishable.
The accused had admitted the allegations in the process. He had been admitted to the hospital with suicidal tendencies and had made the escape plan with another patient. He was caught again shortly after the escape.
The criminal court imposed 250 hours of community service as a condition of probation and instructed the man to continue trying therapy.
