Anna Šabatová: Candidate for the Mayor of Prague for the CSSD and the Greens
The Social Democrats ruled in Prague in the last election period together with YES. However, in the 2018 elections, the party’s candidates received only 2.87 percent of the vote, which was not enough for them to enter the city council. The Greens received even fewer votes, providing 1.84 percent of voters.
The former ombudswoman Šabatová has been working in the field of human rights since the normalization, when she was alone persecuted by the communist regime. The wife of journalist Petr Uhl, who was born on June 23, 1951, was one of the first signatories to Charter 77, later she was also her spokesperson. Since the late 1970s, she has also been involved in the Committee for the Defense of the Unjust Prosecuted (VONS). After 1989, she took part in social work, was at the birth of a public law office and also chaired the Czech Helsinki Committee.
