Prague has presented a plan to repair the Barrandov Bridge. The first ten days will be the worst for drivers – ČT24 – Czech Television
“Today’s bridge needs regular maintenance and repairs, unfortunately our predecessors left it dilapidated. The probes showed that the steel ropes were completely cut and repair was necessary, “said Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates).
The repair will begin on Saturday, when road users will mark traffic restrictions. The heavy equipment will arrive on Sunday and the repair itself will begin on Monday. Repairs are divided into several years. This year they will last 110 days and will cost 594.5 million crowns. Official detours will lead through the Prague Ring Road and the Barrandov Junction.
“The first ten days will be the worst due to the demolition of the ramp, because the material will fall on one lane on Strakonická in the place where the cars pass the Barrandov Bridge. Now there is one lane for cars and another for buses. And for those first ten days, there will be one lane for everyone together, “Scheinherr explained.
Thanks to ensuring the flow of traffic, specially dedicated towing service crews will be prepared on the edges of the bridge. “The bridge ride will be in minutes. We do not anticipate the establishment of a non-stop rescue station due to the nature of the transport, “said Jozef Sinčák, Director of the Technical Administration of Roads (TSK). A team will be set up at the main traffic exchange to monitor traffic the most.
Public transport will continue to run
All public transport lines running on the bridge will be maintained. Only line number 125 from Smíchov railway station to Skalka will be divided into X125 from Smíchov na Háje and number 125, which will run between Skalka and Háje. According to Deputy Director Ropid Martin Šubrt, reserved lanes for buses were reserved in some places to make it easier to get to the bridge. This applies, for example, to Jeremenkova, Vrbova or Modřanská streets.
Tram line number 21 will also be strengthened, which will exceptionally run from Braník to Smíchovské nádraží. Tram number 17 will be extended to the Kobylisy Depot. The ferry pier between Prague 4 and 5 has been moved closer to Dvorce and sails more often in the morning rush hour. According to Šubrt, if further difficulties arose, Czech Railways would strengthen the trains from Zbraslav to Braník. On the cycle paths along the Vltava, there will be more shared bikes in places where they are not now.
The bridge could be partially used by motorists as early as September 1983, but the whole was ceremoniously opened only at the beginning of November 1988. Its overall reconstruction began earlier, but the work on the underside did not yet affect traffic.
Traffic complications are usually spread throughout Prague, whether they are accidents or repairs. The bridge underwent this between 2006 and 2007, but it was not a complete reconstruction as it is now. As early as 2013, there was only local damage to the waterproofing, but a report from 2015 already stated that “by 2020 at the latest, it will be necessary to replace the entire pavement, including waterproofing, rehabilitation of expansion bridges and repair of the drainage system”.
