Prague 6 was to distribute flower bulbs. People are unlucky, someone stole everything
Many people were looking forward to Saturday’s markets in Prague. The city district there was to offer free bulbs of tulips and hyacinths from its flower beds. But those interested are unlucky, someone stole all the onions from a closed container. City Hall complains that people take “prey” directly from the flower beds.
Back in the center of Prague, he informed that gardeners had pulled flower bulbs from the flowerbeds, some of which were to be freely dismantled at Saturday’s farmers’ markets on the so-called Kulaťák, as Vítězné náměstí is nicknamed. “Storage is costly and there is no guarantee that all the plants will bloom again in the spring. That’s why we distribute them free of charge so that they can still make you happy,” the town hall explained.
But there was nothing to give away on Thursday. At night, someone broke into a closed container on Victory Square and took everything. There was nothing left of the flower bulbs, only leaves and clutter remained in place. “That’s why we have nothing to add to the market. The action of handing out tulips and hyacinths sadly from the town hall on Facebook.”
Somewhere the thieves didn’t even wait for the gardeners to release the bulbs from the ground. For example, in Zelená Street they were taken directly from the flower beds. “We would like to protect at least the rest of the flowerbeds that are still in bloom. But even there, the gardeners have seen individuals digging pieces of flowerbeds with shovels and taking them home without shame in broad daylight,” the city management lamented.
City police spokeswoman Jiřina Ernestová told the TN.cz newsroom that she does not deal with flower theft. Nevertheless, the city district asked her for help. “We asked the six police officers for help to oversee our flower beds,” the town hall said, adding that it would report the case to the Czech Police.
“If we manage to catch and punish the thief, it will be a pleasant satisfaction, but honestly, for all the green clerks who take care of the flowerbeds, we are sorry and we are a little shocked,” the city district added.
Most people do not hide their outrage. “We planted hawthorns, small bushes some time ago in Prague 7. The next day, eight bushes were gone,” one of the inhabitants of Prague described her experience under a post about the theft of onions.
