Disruption of Russian gas supplies: Sochranovka Station
There will be less gas. Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Europe’s dependence on Russian gas has been one of the most debated topics. Several experts agree that it is through its sale that the Kremlin obtains a significant part of the funds it subsidizes the war. While Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly mentioned the complete cessation of the tap for Europe, this has not happened.

However, Ukraine has recently hit. Part of the gas for Europe flows through its territory. Both Sochranovka and Sudža entry points are used for this. On Tuesday, the Ukrainian gas pipeline operator GTSOU warned of the suspension of gas supplies via Sochranovka. According to GTSOU, the occupiers canceled the technical process of transportation and took gas unjustifiably. Therefore, GTSOU at this entry point to fulfill its obligations.
A spokesman for the Russian gas company Gazprom also confirmed that the concern had received a warning from the Ukrainian side. Although she suggested moving the gas through the Sudza entry point, the Russian side refused. And this can also affect Slovakia. According to current data, gas supplies in Slovakia through the Veľké Kapušany border point, which is the main transit route to Europe, should have fallen by 18%. This is the lowest level since April 30.
However, the economic sector is not afraid of problems. “Gas flows to Slovakia according to agreed volumes and in accordance with valid contracts. In Ukraine, one pipeline entry point from Russia has been closed due to the situation in the region, but the other continues to operate. “ conclusion of the press department of the ministry. “At the moment, there is no reason to worry, the situation is stable, gas is still going on and we are continuing to fill the storage tanks for the next heating season,” emphasized the Minister of Economy Richard Sulík. He added that gas also flows into our country from the Czech Republic.
According to the ministry, the oil situation is equally stable. The reservoirs are said to be full and Slovakia has strategic oil reserves secured for 95 days. Slovnaft and Transpetrol refineries also have additional oil reserves. “Even in the case of a commodity, there is no reason to consider that there should be a reduction in supply,” added Sulík.
According to energy expert Karel Hirman, the Russian side is responsible for the situation. “The Russians have taken this entry point. Ukrainians have lost control of it and simply cannot guarantee gas transportation through their territory to Europe. “ with. “At the same time, however, they proposed a solution, namely that everything would pass through another entry point, which the Ukrainians still have under control. It is therefore up to Gazprom and Putin to accept this proposal. “ he noted that Putin’s de facto disconnects us from gas with his decisions, which will need to be addressed at a pan-European level. “Slovakia should, above all, fulfill its role of domestic union with the Polish system,” he added.
The expert also revealed how this situation will affect the Slovak Republic itself. You can find his statement in the gallery.
