Toulouse: first phase of work completed for the Rosa Parks middle school in the Lalande district

It is indeed the first part of this vast renovation which has just been completed with the delivery of a new teaching building. Sparkling walls and facades, rooms dedicated to classes in the general and adapted professional education sections (Segpa) brand new, rehearsal room for the orchestra… The premises have been radically redesigned to make it a “space conducive to learning” as the president of the county council pointed out. “It is our responsibility to promote the academic success of students and to promote equal opportunities throughout the territory,” he insisted. The large, bright and functional classrooms equipped with the latest equipment are appreciated by both teachers and students. “Everything is modular, which allows us to completely adapt our lessons”, slips in a professor of Sciences and life of the earth. Sustainable materials, a wood-fired boiler, a photovoltaic installation… The renovation of the school was designated by the Toulouse architecture firm “Vigneu et Zilio” and is completely “in line with a policy of respect for the environment and exploitation of the advantages of what already exists”.
The first pickaxes were carried out in November 2020 in order to renovate this huge school building dating from the 1960s. And since then, the construction site has continued for an end scheduled for March 2023. with the various craftsmen working on this colossal project. Cost of the operation: approximately 15.8 million euros.
In total, the Department has released a budget of 350 million euros for the construction, renovation or expansion of 27 schools by 2027. The Rosa Parks college is part of this program. And according to a former student who came yesterday, “it’s unrecognizable”.
