Did little Emilie’s father try to murder his daughter?
The father of little Emilie is sent back to the Assize Court of Pas-de-Calais, after a decision by a judge in Béthune on Wednesday. This 49-year-old man will have to answer for attempted murder of a minor under the age of 15.
Emilie is in a wheelchair, after numerous operations
On January 19, 2020, the couple, originally from Bully-les-Mines, is in crisis. The father then decides to put his daughter Emilie, aged 8 at the time, in the back of his car. According to the investigation, he sprinkles the passenger compartment with gasoline, places the cans in the trunk and sets off. Arrived between Mazingarbe and Grenay, west of Lens (Pas-de-Calais), he plans to build the car against an electric pylon.
The vehicle caught fire and the driver allows him to escape, ending up his daughter Emilie in the flames. She owes her life only to the intervention of a man who stops and takes the little girl out. Emilie, now 11 years old, has very serious consequences: she is now in a wheelchair, after having undergone numerous operations.
An accident according to the father
The family welcomes the trial with a slowdown. The father, who was incarcerated for 6 months after the tragedy, always pleads the thesis of the accident.
