Antwerp permanent Ferris wheel on redeveloped Scheldt quays (Antwerp)
If the Antwerp Scheldt quays have been redeveloped, will there be a Ferris wheel on it? About which asks the Antwerp city council to advance. In the meantime, a search is underway for an operator of a Ferris wheel for the period from June to November on the Scheldt quays.
The Ferris wheel The View Antwerp stood continuously for 14 months at the Antwerp Steenplein during the corona period. It was unemployed for a long period of time. Nevertheless, it soon became an image on the Scheldt quays, certainly with the solution lighting. it also quickly became a favorite place to take pictures.
“We are going to investigate whether a permanent Ferris wheel has existed at the completely renovated Scheldt quays,” says Johan Vermant, spokesman for Antwerp mayor Bart De Wever (N-VA). “The impact on the Antwerp skyline will also be examined. The redeveloped Scheldt quays will include the monument to names for the years of the Second World War, catering terraces and a park in the south. A Ferris wheel permanently on the Scheldt quays will certainly be on the table after the reconstruction.”
Meanwhile, the city council is looking for a Ferris wheel operator for the period from June to November on Steenplein. The concrete start is the Tall Ships Races from Friday 22 July to Monday 25 July in Antwerp.
“Visitors would then have a wonderful view of all the sailing ships that are moored at the Scheldt quays from the Ferris wheel,” says Vermant. “We also think this is commercially interesting for the operator of the Ferris wheel. Because the construction and dismantling must be time and money, and it must be interesting for the operator, the agreement will last until a cost period, i.e. November.”
It concerns an agreement for this year, 2024. The location will be for the reconstruction of the Scheldt quays. The attraction may have to move to a different location.
With the Winter in Antwerp, a Ferris wheel will be on the Steenplein in Antwerp for a few weeks.
