“Almost drowned” in Reynisfjörður
An ambulance was called to Reynisfjörður at seven o’clock last night after a Spanish tourist was in danger.
According to Odds Árnason, a senior police officer at the police in Southland, the man managed to get out of the sea of his own accord after a few moments. Earlier, bystanders had planned to save him. He was cold and very upset when he reached dry land.
Ambulances checked him afterwards and he turned out to be fine, Oddur says, adding that the number of calls has increased a lot lately.
When asked, he says he doesn’t remember any more cases like this recently.
Went into the sea on purpose
Photographer Sandra Pawłowska, who witnessed what happened in Reynisfjörður yesterday, says the man was almost drowned. He deliberately went into the sea and took off his clothes while his friend photographed him.
She says that the incident caused her fear and that people nearby took their children away so that they would not see what was happening there.
There have been deaths in Reynisfjörður, as the waves there can be very large and dangerous. Last November, a Chinese woman died there after going out with a wave.
