Neustadt a. Rbge. (red). Last night, three fire brigades from Neustadt moved to the railway line between Hanover and Nienburg. At 3 a.m. a fire broke out in the locomotive of a freight train.
The engine driver had brought the long train between Hagen and Eilvese to a standstill – the diesel locomotive in which the fire had started was at Balschenweg in Eilvese. The turbocharger of the diesel locomotive, which was a rare model with a marine diesel engine, caught fire.
Engine driver starts fighting the fire
The fire brigades from Eilvese, Neustadt and Schneeren were alerted and made their way to the scene with around 50 people, and the rescue service and the emergency management of Deutsche Bahn also responded.
The railway employee started fighting the fire himself, using several fire extinguishers on board. The fight was successful – the machine fire was raised before the first firefighters arrived. The fire brigade took over the scene, explored the situation and continued to monitor the heat development of the diesel locomotive while protecting the surroundings.
route closure
The railway emergency manager who arrived organized the towing of the diesel locomotive, which was no longer roadworthy. The fire brigade’s emergency services checked the level crossings on the route that the locomotive had passed and measures for leaking operating materials.
The railway line was completely closed between Neustadt and Hagen during the operation. There were delays and partial cancellations in train services. By daybreak, rail traffic had returned to normal, and there were no longer any effects in this regard. The regional connections are also running on schedule again at Wunstorf train station.
