56 migrants rescued off Pas-de-Calais
The castaways were brought back to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer and taken care of by the border police.
56 migrants were rescued on Monday off Pas-de-Calais, said the Maritime Prefecture in a press release. The Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue (CROSS) Gris-Nez had received the alert in the morning of a boarding in difficulty.
They were rescued by the Boulogne-sur-Mer gendarmerie brigade and the intervention, assistance and rescue tug (RIAS) Bee Languedoc.
The 56 castaways were brought back to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer and were taken care of by the border police and the departmental fire and rescue service of Pas-de-Calais.
The CROSS Gris-Nez regularly carries out search and rescue operations in the English Channel. Last March, he rescued more than a hundred migrants in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais in less than 24 hours.
In its press release, the Maritime Prefecture recalls that the weather conditions in the Channel are often “difficult” with strong winds, and that it is a “particularly dangerous” sector. She warns “anyone who plans to cross the Channel about the risks involved”.
