Tachovské náměstí: The locals wanted to revitalize it 13 years ago
Prague 3 has chosen a company that will reconstruct Tachovské náměstí pod Vítkovem. Since the reconstruction, the town hall has been promising a much better public space, which will also serve as a forecourt or, if you like, an entrance to Vítkov. If all goes well, should be done next year. The estimated cost was 49 million crowns. “The winning costs amount to 61 million,” Jan Materna, Councilor for Investment and Property (TOP 09), told Blesk.
In the middle lane there is an unused building of public toilets, which will be demolished. The town hall on the square plans to build a new central area, add greenery and demolish the retaining walls and the bridge over the passage towards Vítkov. The modifications are to improve the connection to the cycle path around Vítkov and to the hill itself, where a new staircase is to lead.
Thorny road
However, this revitalization has a very groundbreaking history, and it began to be discussed in 2009. There was even a study, but the estimated cost was already 45 million crowns, which moved the project into a so – called drawer. “This bothered me, and at home we thought about it. It occurred to us to organize a competition among architecture students provided that the costs may not exceed CZK 10 million. We started solving the idea with people from the Bajkazyl bar, which was located in the square at the time. Tomáš Mikeska (former Deputy Mayor of Prague 3, who was in charge of finance and local development, also helped us with his experience). We consulted the idea with Adam Gebrian, but we did not succeed much, “describes Michal Vronský, now a representative of Prague 3, who was not yet in politics at the time.
The first revitalization pushed by the locals
Gebrian then explained to them that students may have fresh ideas and that it might be financially interesting, there is a high probability due to inexperience, that their ideas will not be realized. “He recommended that we find architects who lived in Žižkov and have a connection to the place. We were finally to persuade them to do a study which we will then present to the town hall, and we will try to arrange the sketch fees. It is said that this would be the first major revitalization of public space pushed by the inhabitants, “he recalls.
Vronsky et al. they really got into this idea and in the end they managed to secure 5 studies that developed proposals. “We brought the proposals to the then councilor for local development, Ondřej Rut (Greens). Ten promised about 200 thousand as sketches for the involved architects. All proposals were then officially discussed by the relevant commissions and committees. ”In the end, the OV-A studio won, according to which the square will be completed next year.
The current appearance of Tachovské náměstí is not very attractive for sitting
