Eagles Of Death Metal and Dead Sara in Prague showed something incredible
“Hooray, concert!” Plus the best one over the last few years! Seriously. It was clear that the Eagles Of Death Metal performance would be one of the most anticipated events of the spring when it became clear that it would take place. Gentlemen! It was evening! It was a show! Vocals shouted, T-shirt sweaty. Now what? Squeeze the t-shirt, charge the flashlights and ideally put it all over again. That was something so amazing! And not only the main star but also the lead band is to blame. A short concert by the mostly female band Dead Sara completely destroyed all ideas about the quality that can generally be expected from foreign frontmen of foreign groups, which normally play in the Lucerna Music Bar. They are no longer beginners and the quote from Dave Grohl, who long ago called them the future biggest band in the world, is already quite bearded. Dead Sara is an established band and it was recognizable. We have written poems about it several times on the music server, so attentive readers have known about its existence for some time now. But that the group from Los Angeles, which still didn’t quite break through, would ever look to the Czech Republic was a long-dreamed dream of local fans. And it is.

Even better, its members have fully shown that there are no effects and sophisticated production behind them, but that they are just as pissed and raw as on the records. Singer Emily Armstrong celebrated her birthday the night before and received a few trivia from Czech fans, but that doesn’t mean she would soften up. From the beginning, everyone pumped it into people to the fullest. If you weren’t a fan, you had to become the latest single “Mona Lisa”, which is full of ideas. Sharpened music, punk recklessness and absolute ignoring of industrial trends. That this was worn in the 1990s? And what? Kiss my ass!
There is nothing more important than an honest experience and a good song. Emily knew that. The old fans were delighted and gained new ones when she pulled “Mr. Mr.” out of her hat. following just after the swinging “Hypnotic”. Two completely different songs, which could easily be from two different groups. Nobody knew what was coming next, because DS plays a different mix of songs at each concert. There is only one certainty left. The biggest hit is “Weatherman”. The song that is he did and thanks to which the writer of these lines also appeared in “Burnout: Paradise” in 2008. But he also starred in “SSX”, “Need For Speed: Most Wanted” or “NHL”, for example, in almost everything EA publisher stands for. But the sale to the most hated company in the world worked, and thanks to that, we were able to appreciate their third studio last year as an album of the week.

The frontwoman knew that everyone was waiting for this song, so she shouted it in her face to her most faithful. She also jumped from the drums. Just crazy. And an incredibly powerful experience that lacked only one – longer footage. Dead Sara played here for the first time and it can’t be the last. Not Just. They still have so much to show. A solo and full concert just has to come. This was already flattering. But they can do more and we want to see it. Perhaps not only the organizers from D Smack U Promotion will read it. There was no need to warm up, it was boiling in the boiler. Nevertheless, when the main star was to appear on stage, she started playing “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge. The disco rhythm and choral refrain accompanied the Eagles Of Death Metal to the stage and Jesse Hughes in particular enjoyed it very much. Right from the start, he put on his typical dances and didn’t get rid of them until the end of the performance. The mustachioed frontman knows very well that if the band is not having fun playing on stage, those under it are not having fun either. The contagious optimism and the joy of meeting each other after a pandemic break immediately created a brave atmosphere. But no one was surprised. After all, even Wikipedia writes about the singer’s extremely euphoric performance. So he just put down his hat, licked his fingers, straightened his beard, and reached into the strings. And then many more times.

If anyone can be said to be cool, it’s Jesse Hughes and his band. Stylish wardrobe, coarse-grained riffs and the introductory “I Only Want You”, which only the Harley and the highway in front of you were missing. Guitars (and there were!) Buzzed like a swarm of hornets as EODM launched “Silverlake (KSOFM)”. The audience’s attention cannot be shifted from the dancing Jesse to the new bassist Jennie Vee, who chose an image resembling Harley Quinn as her concert outfit. Guitarist Josh Jová also took the floor in “Now I’m A Fool”, whom the principal also praised for his performance in solos.
“Never love anyone halfway,” he said as he prepared for the hit “I Love You All The Time” just after he had the whole club sing “Happy Birthday” and once again invited the singer from Dead Sara to the stage. He then recalls the roots of rock music with the help of David Bowie, and Elvis Presley arrived, whose ballad “Can’t Help Falling In Love” was acoustically rendered and completely changed the mood of the excited visitors. But that didn’t have to delay, because as soon as he showed the guitarists how the hairs on his hands stood out in favor of the audience, he then went with the guitar to the balcony. And with the assistance of bassist playing an excerpt from Lemmy’s “Ace Of Spades”, he ended a brilliant small concert. If you’ve needed to shoot off your slippers lately and feel like you’re alive for a long time, you should be here. A phenomenal evening.

It’s unbelievable. Not so long ago, many of us watched a documentary about a terrorist attack at the Bataclan Club in Paris, and it was Jesse who teared tears like peas on his face as he described his fans shooting around him. How, with such a tragedy behind him, he is able to climb the stage again and again and expend such an incredible amount of positive energy, is beyond human comprehension. The fight he has to fight with himself every time he’s about to run up the stairs to the podium. “Show must go on” in full nudity. None of us can imagine how he feels. And he’ll go up the stairs again and play a real rock’n’roll whirlwind like a king. The listed FiX sings correctly: “Heroes don’t talk and they go into the dark.” Jesse Hughes is a hero.
