Until rust near the heart of Amsterdam | To travel
An overnight stay at Freelodge Village in the green outskirts of Amsterdam is a bull’s eye for those who will not be too far from the center and still want to get some rust. There is hardly a more ideal combination for such a mini holiday in your own city.
The relaxed holiday feeling starts immediately when we see the seven wooden houses of Freelodge Village looming in the distance. We have almost just been to reach this green village, but in fact it took us from the door to twenty minutes.
Wheelbarrow
Parking on the Freelodge site is not possible, but opposite there is plenty of space to park your car free of charge. Inconvenient for those who want to take all kinds of (heavy) luggage and groceries? Certainly not, because at the reception there are wheelbarrows ready to take your belongings to the cottage. Nice and slim idea!
The seven wooden houses are made of their own land and designed by architects who hold dear. Built on stilts so that guests can experience the feeling of freedom in nature even better, but also to give plants and animals plenty of space to grow and live.
During our stay we spotted several hares from the spacious terrace that seemed to be looking too curious at us. All lodges have an area of approximately 40 square meters. Cozy, but big enough for four guests.
cozy
If the houses look the same from the outside, inside they are all different. Decorated with a different theme like Black & White, Vintage and Woods. New and second-hand items have been used for the furnishing.
We stay in house Marrakech. The name says it all: a tiny house where other carpets, pillows and accessories already seem like we are experiencing a Thousand and One Nights fairy tale.
In the cottage we find everything we need: bed, bath and kitchen linen and a welcome basket with coffee, tea and washing-up tablets. But also olive oil, salt and pepper.
Collect eggs
Guests can explore the green surroundings by bicycle or by canoe, which can be rented at reception. Within a few minutes, the Fruit Gardens of West arise where, depending on the season, visitors can pull fruit and collect the eggs of the hens roaming the orchard.
During our stay at Freelodge Villa, the rain is pouring down from the sky. Actually, we don’t mind that at all. From our partly covered veranda we listen to the patter of the rain and we do nothing at all, except relax. That’s exactly what we came for.
