Refugee Center Prague: In total, over 84,000 Ukrainians checked in
The Prague Refugee Center has handled 4,112 Ukrainians in the last seven days, which is 360 more than a week earlier. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion at the end of February, 84,219 refugees have used the center’s service. This follows from information on the twitter of Prague firefighters, who help with the operation of the center. On Friday, 429 people arrived, before last weekend the staff of the center checked in more, over 500.
At the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the daily number of refugees checked in at the Prague center serving the capital and the Central Bohemian Region was in the thousands. The record day was March 8, when the center served 3,667 refugees. The last time the number of people checked in one day was on April 11, and on Tuesday, April 19, after Easter, it was just below this limit. Recently, the center handles hundreds of refugees every day. This week was a maximum of 874 people checked in.
The centers, which are all over the country, offer refugees from Ukraine assistance with registration, accommodation, documents, job placement or insurance. The center of Prague is in mid-April moved from the Congress Center to new premises near the Vysočanská metro station. The reason for the move was the contracted events in the Congress Center, including those for the upcoming presidency of the Czech European Union.
The Czech Republic has so far granted refugees from Ukraine about 329,000 special visaswhich will allow them to stay in the country for up to a year. Most refugees are women and children. Every day, the state issues several thousand new visas, but some Ukrainians leave the Czech Republic at the same time. Although refugees are obliged to report that they are leaving the country, not everyone will do so.
