[J36] LOSC – Monaco: the highs and lows
Dominated most of the time against Monegasques far from being extraordinary, LOSC only had a short highlight. Angel Gomes’ goal therefore comes as an anomaly in a match relatively poor in Lille action.
The hights
A welcome reaction after the hour of play
In a false rhythm since the start of the match, lacking technical accuracy in the last passes, LOSC at least had the merit of reacting well from the hour mark. The flash of genius came from a substitute, with the soloist number of Angel Gomes. The English hopeful makes his technique speak to equalize and breathe new life into Lille. The locals find the momentum and accumulate the Monegasques in their half of the field. Edon Zhegrova (71′) then Zeki Celik (72′) both close to turning the tide just after the equalizer, but the ball will never cross the goal line again.
A bench that has done good
Despite the absences of Burak Yilmaz or Renato Sanches, the Lille bench was fairly well supplied in technical quality. With the entries, shortly after the hour mark, of Edon Zhegrova and Angel Gomes, the striker, Jocelyn Gourvennec had several ammunition in stock. LOSC even took control of the match little by little by signing a highlight of ten minutes. Far too little to weaken a team like AS Monaco, firmly attached to the Ligue 1 podium now. He will probably have missed other offensive forces, although the entry of Isaac Lihadji at 90 + 1′ leaves a little perplexed as to the will to attack.
The flops
A flagrant lack of desire
From the start of the meeting, we felt a LOSC far from the benefits it was able to produce three previous months. Offensively, Jonathan David continues to go through this second part of the season like a ghost. Untenable at the start of the season, the Canadian is now only a shadow of himself and no longer makes any difference. Overall, the face displayed by Lille is clearly insufficient for a reigning French champion team. The proof is, the only but registered by LOSC comes from a long ball, followed by a personal exploit by Angel Gomes. Without it, the copy would have been even worse.
A lax defensiveness that is expensive
How can we leave so much space to Aurélien Tchouaméni at the entrance to the surface? Admittedly, Kevin Volland and Wissam Ben Yedder were well held by the Lille defense, but that seems to have freed up space elsewhere. Twice, through laxity or lack of effort, the Lille defense found itself several meters from the Monegasque game maker, offered him all the leisure to arm and cross his strikes. First from the left in the first period, the French international doubled the lead with an even purer shot, with the right foot. Absences in the Lille defense which cost Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men three points.
