RES in Greece and trends in 2022 – News – news
The energy crisis, from mid-2021 until today, combined with the situation in Ukraine, has created a climate of certainty and insecurity throughout society and others. Despite the turmoil in the global energy market, significant efforts are being made to strengthen and support Renewable Energy Sources (RES) to ensure Europe’s energy supply, as the energy transition to a zero-emission economy remains the key to internationally and domestically.
According to the study prepared by the global energy group of Deloitte regarding the future of RES, four important trends for 2022 emerged, creating new prospects for the further development of the industry.
Growing interest in new clean energy technologies: Green hydrogen, advanced batteries / accumulators and other long-term storage technologies (eg Gas Substitute (SNG), Liquid Fuel, etc.) will be the industry name in the near future. Specifically, green hydrogen, which is highly developed in the US (efforts are being made to accelerate in Greece with the “White Dragon” of Western Macedonia) has been identified as a potential fuel that can meet all the energy needs of the global economy.
Solar energy and new business models: Photovoltaic systems are one of the most competitive energy resources in the international and domestic market. In 2022, new business models could be developed in the solar industry through increased demand for the development of solar panels (a combination of solar panels and batteries) – whose main benefit is the storage of surplus production in order to balance demand.
Development of energy transmission infrastructure from offshore wind: The creation of a network for the interconnection of new, often remote Renewable Energy Sources (offshore wind) with the centers of electricity consumption to cause a key axis of development of the RES industry internationally and in the domestic market in 2022. The renewed regulatory framework investment and the simplification of the licensing of projects that will help speed up the overall process, in which delays are often observed.
The circular economy crucial for the sustainable development of the RES industry: In 2022, the life cycle management strategies for Renewable Energy (RES) industry products and materials are likely to attract the most attention, both internationally and domestically. Government agencies, regulators and the domestic business community have begun to explore solutions to extend the life and increase efficiency, recovery and reuse of resources (eg turbines, batteries, etc.) reported by ΑΠΕ.
In summary, it is easily understood that RES will play a key role in addressing the existing energy challenge of our country (but also internationally) through investments in new technologies and new business models, upgrading the network and infrastructure, as well as through the adoption circular economy by enhancing sustainability.
