The transport company, in cooperation with the capital, is announcing an architectural competition for the cable car from Podbaba via Troja to Bohnice. The public will know the winner and therefore what the whole project will look like at the end of August.
It will carry up to four and a half thousand people in an hour
“It is still true that the cable car is the fastest possible way to connect Prague 6 with Prague 8 via Troja with sufficient capacity, even though this project still faces a demanding permitting route. We will present the results in a few months and then the design work will start in full, ” said the Deputy Mayor for Transport Adam Scheinherr on Facebook.
The winner, selected by an 11-member jury in August, will receive 1.8 million crowns and will continue to work on the project. For the second place there is a reward of 1.2 million, for the third 800 thousand and the proposals for the fourth and fifth place will receive 350 thousand crowns.
The length of the route will be 2.24 km. Between the stations, the cable car will run at a speed of 6.5 meters per second and in total people will travel for almost seven minutes. One cabin can accommodate 35 passengers, a total of 17 of them will ride and in an hour the cable car will carry two to four and a half thousand people in one direction.
The cable car shortens the journey to fifteen minutes
“If you need to get from the Krakow stop in the Bohnice housing estate to Vítězné náměstí today, you have to take a bus to Kobylis, from there by metro to Vltavská and then by tram. Or from Kobylis by metro to the center with a transfer to the Museum and then up again by Áček to Dejvická. Both variants take 40 minutes. We will shorten the journey by cable car to 15 minutes with the way to its stops, ” Scheinherr explained.
According to the transport company in the press release, the cable car will be in operation only during the day, at night the cabins will be parked at the Troja station. It will work on a three-rope system, where one rope is heavy and two load-bearing.
