Population development m of Prague in the years 2011 to 2020 – at the end of 2020, 1,335,084 people lived in Prague, more and more foreigners
Regional Administration of the CZSO in the capital m Prague published a publication mapping the development of the population in Prague over the past ten years and thus created another continuation of long – term series published since 1958.
In the publication we will find an accompanying text that describes the basic trend of demographic development in Prague in the past ten years, as well as a large number of tables and graphs mapping the ten-year development in basic demographic categories. For example, the number of births and deaths, immigration and emigration or marriages and divorces are monitored. Many are old in fairly great detail. The publication focuses both on the capital city of Prague in general and on developments in smaller territorial and administrative units. There are also tables mapping the movement of inhabitants in each of the 57 city districts of Prague.
The number of foreigners is increasing
The data presented in the current publication reveal that at the end of 2020 there were 1,335,084 inhabitants in Prague, which was the most in the history of the capital. Since the end of 2011, the population has increased by 93.4 thousand people. The main problem is migration to Prague, especially from abroad. By contrast, Prague is losing out with the rest of the Czech Republic, with most Praguers moving to Central Bohemian Region. The increase in the number of inhabitants is also characterized to a lesser extent by the natural increase that Prague has recorded in each year of the ten-year period. Only in 2020 was this increase significantly lower than in previous years.
The number of marriages increased slightly until 2019, while the number of divorces remained stable after a ten-year period. Significantly fewer extramarital children were also born in Prague than in the rest of the Czech Republic, but their share gradually increased.
The vast majority of Prague’s city districts have seen an increase in population over the last ten years. The population increased the most in Dolní Měcholupy, Březiněves and Zličín, where the population increased by more than 50%. The decrease in population was recorded only in five city districts, the largest in Běchovice, where the population decreased by 10.5%.
