Hungary is not asking for a Russian oil embargo!
Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orbán convened an industry meeting in the Carmelite monastery on Thursday to discuss Hungary’s energy security in connection with the planned Russian embargo in Brussels, Bertalan Havasi, the prime minister’s press chief, informed MTI. Representatives of the Hungarian government have stated several times since the announcement of the new draft that the European Commission’s new package of sanctions against Russia cannot be supported in its current form, as energy would destroy Hungary’s security of supply, he reminded.
He added: Brussels would still ban the transport of oil from Russia to Europe, with a short deadline, in the case of Hungary from the end of next year.
In connection with the topic, we asked the people of the street in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county what they would say if the price of fuels in Hungary rises to a thousand forints overnight due to the embargo.
Mrs. Ferenc Gulyás, Karcag:
“I’m watching the news anxiously, I hope it doesn’t happen.” I wouldn’t be happy if that’s really the price of gasoline, because we’re often forced to drive by car because you can’t get anywhere by bike. Part of our family lives in the countryside, they also drive cars with babies and luggage, and I often drive in the car because of my work. The other thing is that the price of a thousand forints of petrol will increase transport costs, which would also mean a drastic increase in food and services.
László Krokavecz, Kenderes: – I wouldn’t consider it good, but unfortunately, considering the daily news, this price can be realistic, which would affect us, the producers, very badly. We would not be able to pass on the increased transport costs in the selling price in the market, because the buyers’ wallets are also finite. A domino principle would be launched, which would put not only our economy, but also Hungarian families and the country in a difficult situation. Energy should not be played with, as it takes years for a domestic oil company to set up a different supply system.
Zoltán Mohi, Szolnok: – Invictus Swimming and Water Polo SC is a small club in Szolnok, but we also have sections in Martfű and Mezőtúr. Our athletes also travel a lot for trainings and competitions, so we would be badly affected by the expensive price of a thousand forints. It would be difficult for us to manage, we do not want to pass on these costs to the parents, who also bear a lot of burden. Higher gasoline prices are also affecting our privacy, as transportation costs continue to rise in both retail and wholesale.
